Managing Editor Sean McCoy is a life-long outdoorsman who grew up hunting and fishing central Wisconsin forests and lakes. He joined GearJunkie after a 10-year stint as a newspaperman in the Caribbean, where he learned sailing and wooden-boat repair. Based in Denver, McCoy is an avid trail runner, camper, hunter, angler, mountain biker, skier, and beer tester. Then it stopped abruptly to peer intently at something through the woods, head bobbing up and down as it strained to make sense of the object of curiosity — and I saw that my bike was actually much closer than I had realized, less than 10 yards from the matriarch. The animal finally seemed satisfied that the inanimate object was no threat and resumed feeding on white oak acorns. Founded in 1999, started as a collection of links to Michigan related sites, and a series of manually edited blogs. It was a marriage of my passions for the outdoors and the...

“mountain bike trailer for hunting hunt bicycle wheels”

An “unthinkable” tragedy: Two people die in tree well accidents at Oregon’s Mt. Bachelor ski area. Officials called the powder ‘fluffy’ and ‘easy to ski.’ It brought thousands to the ski resort over the weekend. But those conditions also belied a very real danger: tree wells No motor except the nerdy one sitting in the seat, but you might be able to add an electric.  Work up too much of a sweat getting out there and the deer might smell you – or you might smell like a sweaty deer!  This is the CB4. CB4 is a fatbike, a human powered all-terrain vehicle built to take hunters and anglers far into the backcountry quickly and quietly. Its massive 3.8”-wide tires run at very low pressure to provide flotation and amazing traction over rough or soft terrain. After that conversation, Kelly booked in an Ubco test ride, and decided to keep his ute for towing the trailer and completing round the farm jobs. However, Kelly wasn’t convinced with the Ubco initially; he was sceptical of the Ubco’s ability to handle the steep terrain until a second test ride put him at ease. “best bike trailer for hunting +best electric bike for hunting”

“I was looking at getting a Polaris for hunting and farm work, but then I got talking to a mate who’d had some success hunting with his pedal assist electric mountain bike. He’d found that animals couldn’t hear him coming, and that’s when I thought the Ubco could be good for hunting too.” While pretty functional right off the showroom floor, there are things that can be done to make them even more effective for hunters. To prove it, we sent a 2006 Kawasaki KLR 650, to Jim Pearson of Cycle Tech to create the ideal two-wheeled hunting machine. The CB4 frame has attachment points for 1, 2, or 3 standard water bottle cage mounts, depending on the space available on each frame size (larger frames have more bottle mounts, smaller ones have less). The fork has 2 mid-blade mounts and 2 sets of triple-boss attachment points, one on each leg, for oversize cages on the fork to expand carrying capacity for water, stove fuel, sleeping pads and other gear. Whether you’re going over the next ridge to check for elk, or to the corner store for milk, the QuietKat® FatKat gets you there faster. There’s no gas or exhaust smell to aggravate your nose or the nose of the game you’re tracking, thanks to the lithium-ion battery power pack. The electronic motor is also infinitely quieter than a combustible engine. Removing...

“bow holder for mountain bike |battery powered hunting vehicles”

I bought this bike with intended use on my hunting farms. I’ve ridden it now off road several times, and to say I’m blown away, is an understatement. This bike simply blew me away on all fronts. The motor is super strong and pulls me around great. I’m 6’2 210 so I’m not a small guy either. Like others have said, if this thing doesn’t make you smile the first time you ride it, you’re just not a happy person!!!! Don’t laugh, but I was just curious if you’ve ever heard of anyone using off-road or trail bikes for hunting applications? Obviously, you couldn’t really carry loads out, but I was just wondering if you’ve ever known anyone who has used them to hunt? I like 4 wheelers, but I miss the nimble feel of a trail bike. TIG-welded attachment points on the frame’s rear end allow the addition of a rack. Carrying your gear on the bike results in greater agility and less fatigue in your back and feet for longer hours in the field. The predator-afflicted can make stands for miles...
